Cameron Norrie earned the biggest win of his professional journey by rallying from a set down to overcome world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz in three hard-fought sets in the second round of the Paris Masters.

Even though he had previously defeated Alcaraz on two prior meetings, this triumph represents Norrie's initial win over a current world No 1.

"Massive. So big for me," said Norrie, who is now the latest UK male player in history to beat a global number one. "Returning from injury last year, I lost in the opening stage of qualies here. I just sought to enjoy my performance in the closing months of the year. To secure a victory like this, it's the most significant success of my professional life, my maiden triumph over the top player and probably the strongest competitor in the sport right now."

Norrie, positioned 31st globally, also ended Alcaraz's impressive sequence of nine consecutive finals and 17 straight premier event wins, which represented the top run of performances in the young champion's early career.

The top seed looked to be progressing easily towards victory early on as he sailed past the opening set. Yet, Norrie slowly worked himself into the match by serving with improved accuracy and engaging the Spaniard into lengthy, demanding exchanges.
